NEW Agriculture / Horticulture Agent Joins Jackson and Swain Extension

Katie AshleyKatie Ashley is joining the Cooperative Extension team in Jackson and Swain County as the new Plant Agriculture and Horticulture agent. Originally from Vero Beach, Florida, Katie has most recently been living in Maine where she worked with blueberry growers while earning a master’s degree in botany and plant pathology. She has also served in the Peace Corps in Nicaragua and AmeriCorps in the southwestern US. In her new role, she will be working with the Christmas tree, strawberry, row crop, and other agricultural industries to connect them with current research and technology. Additionally, she will provide support for master gardeners, home gardeners, beekeepers, youth, and individuals with questions or concerns about their plants!
