The 2019 Montgomery County 4-H and Farm Bureau Youth Livestock Show was held on Saturday, August 24 at the Agriculture Center on Glen Road. There were 219 animals registered to be shown by 91 youth, ages 5-19 from across the Sandhills and Piedmont regions. Mr. Brandon Hartman of Walnut Cove, NC judged both the heifer and goat shows.

The heifer show began at 10 a.m. with four classes of intense showmanship where the youth are judged on how well they exhibit their animals. Marcie Harward and Mattie Harward of Stanly County won the Grand Champion and Reserve Champion heifers.

Cattle Show

After the heifer show, there was a special Pee Wee Goat class for anyone under the age of 5 that wanted to experience showing an animal. The peewees teamed up with older showmen and learned how to lead a goat around the show ring. All of the peewee showmen were awarded a medal for their efforts.

Pee Wee Goat Show

The goat show started at 2 p.m. with four classes of very strong showmen, followed by the market wethers and the competition was tough! The Grand Champion Wether this year was owned and exhibited by Laura Jessup of Randolph County and the Reserve Champion was owned and exhibited by Katelyn Hewitt of Rockingham County. The does were the last to be judged. Laura Jessup took home the Grand Champion Doe while Paison Cain of Randolph County had the Reserve Champion.
