A Community Public Input Meeting will occur on April 29th at the Smoky Mountain Elementary School from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the school cafeteria to help decide the future of the “Old Drexel Furniture Plant of Whittier.”  The site is presently being called the “Smoky Mountain Agricultural Development Station.”  Input is valuable and needed for this project to be successful.

This public input session is to help decide the future development of the “Old Drexel” site, so to meet real community needs for placed based agricultural economic development and recreation. The meeting will listen to individual and community needs to make the effort site specific in respect to agriculture and recreation.

Please come to this open community input meeting to help Jackson County identify specific agriculture and recreation development at the old Drexel Site for the surrounding counties and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indian.

For more information, please contact Robert J. Hawk, Jackson and Swain County Extension Director at the Jackson County Cooperative Extension Center at 586-4009 or 488-3848 or email “robert_hawk@ncsu.edu.” Dinner will be served.
